
Three Newton boys track and field athletes set personal records Thursday in Pella, competing in the Central College High School Indoor Meet. Caden Klein set two of those, winning the 60 meter dash (6.98) and the 400 meters (51.96). Klein also won the 200 meter race (22.91). Teammate Nick Thomason placed sixth in the 60 meter dash (7.20) and tied for ninth in the 200 meters (24.09). Reilly Trease placed first and set a personal record in the 60 meter hurdles (8.48), with fellow Cardinal Austin Arauz finishing eleventh (9.06). Sixth place finishes were earned by Lance Zabel in the 1600 meters (4:55.68), and the 4×800 team of Levi Zabel, Reagan Maki, Colter Shaw, and Dawson Maki (9:16.53). The 4×200 relay with Arauz, Henry Allen, Ali Yahia, and Trease placed 13th (1:42.62). Newton coach Chad Garvis took twelve members of the team to the meet, to compete against athletes from all classes. No team scores were kept.
The next meet for the Newton boys track and field team is the Boone Invite on April 7th.
