The City of Newton will spend $41,965 to have two dilapidated houses demolished by a northeast Iowa company. The city acquired the houses at 427 North 3rd Avenue East and 306 East 8th Street North through the Dangerous and Dilapidated Building’s program.

Newton’s Community Services Department received five bids for the demolitions, and the city council this week accepted the low $41,965 bid from D.W. Zinser Company of Walford, Iowa. City staff estimated the demolition project would cost just over $62,000. The houses are to be gone by the end of June.
