The Highway 14 Mile Long Bridge will start a lengthy closure on April 7th.
In a meeting earlier this week, the Department of Transportation and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office were given updates about the project. This will be part of an overlay project of the bridge and replacement of the smaller bridge north of the Mile Long Bride. According to the Sheriff’s Office, starting on at 8:00 am on April 7th, the highway will be closed between Highway G40 and Highway G28. The project is projected for a 200 calendar day completion.
Sheriff Jason Sandholdt advised that a deputy will be assigned to the north side of Lake Red Rock to provide better response times to calls in the area in preparation for potential situations. During this time, Highway 14 will be closed to all traffic and a detour will be in place using Iowa 163, County Highway T17 and Highway 92 in both directions. The highway will remain open to local traffic up until the closure.
