The City of Newton is going to pay a company from Lincoln, Nebraska $38,000 to sandblast and repaint 100 fire hydrants in the southeast quadrant of town. Staff from the Water Distribution Division of Newton’s Utilities Department say the sandblasting and repainting are needed to preserve the fire hydrants functionality and visibility. The two bids received for this project were opened earlier this month. 

The Newton City Council this week approved the low quote of $380 per fire hydrant, for a total of $38,000, from J.R. Stelzer Company.
