highway-5-4

The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office has announced that Iowa Highway 5 north of Marion County Road G-76 will be closed beginning on Tuesday, April 15th. Beginning at 8 am on April 15th, weather permitting, crews will close Iowa 5 to remove and replace the bridge over Walnut Creek, 0.9 miles north of G-76 in Marion County, and the closure is anticipated to last until mid-September. Those traveling on Iowa 5 while it is closed will need to follow a marked detour route around the work zone using Iowa 92 and Marion County T-17. The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
