The Jasper County Secondary Roads Department will wrap up their scheduled public informational meetings on gravel road maintenance tonight. The meeting at Amboy Grange in Kellogg will begin at 6:30 p.m. This is the fourth informational session of this month, with the prior sessions being held in Prairie City, Lynnville, and Baxter.
Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch says this year, Secondary Roads workers will resurface every Level “A” granular road with a similar amount of rock. They will also attempt to bring them all to a similar condition through resurfacing and blading.
“The resurfacing program was set up to provide 150 tons per mile to each granular road classified as Level “A”. It also provides up to 600 tons per mile for those roads impacted by current year road and bridge projects, along with 600 tons per mile for roads we reconstructed last year.”
There are 1,227 miles of roads in Jasper County, with gravel roads accounting for 927 of those miles, which is 75.6%.
