The application period for Knoxville’s 2025 Municipal Facade Improvement Grant Program is now open until May 16th.

In 2022 the city introduced this first of its kind program and had a successful first round of 22 applications, and now going into the fourth year of this program the city has awarded over 40 applications. These 40 grants that have been awarded over the past three years have totaled $217,000. Business owners can submit applications for facade improvements in which the city will provide a reimbursement of 50% up to $10,000. City Manager Heather Ussery says the biggest change this year is that these applications will no longer be limited to just the downtown area.

“This is our fourth year for our municipal facade improvement program and it’s an opportunity for the city to help business owners invest into our downtown revitalization. For the past three years it has been centralized to the downtown area and we have been able to approve over $200,000 in grants for that and as we discussed for the upcoming cycle in applications council wanted to open that up to businesses along Highway 14 and Lincoln St so that’s the biggest change for the upcoming year.”
