The Lynnville Historical Society is taking over ownership of the pedestrian bridge at Wagaman Mill. Jasper County Conservation Department Director Keri Van Zante says for the past 50 years, the county has maintained that bridge over the North Skunk River.

“The Wagaman Mill pedestrian bridge over the river was built with grant funds 50 years ago. Conservation got the grant funds and built the bridge on Lynnville Historical Society property. The maintenance agreement and lease is up on that. In talking with the Lynnville Historical Society, they were willing to take over ownership and maintenance of the bridge.”

A memorandum of understanding transferring maintenance and ownership of the pedestrian bridge to the Lynnville Historical Society has been approved by the Jasper County Board of Supervisors.

The Wagaman Mill was built on the north edge of Lynnville in 1846 as a paddle wheel saw mill. Two years later it was converted into a grist mill with construction of a wooden dam across the river.
