The Pella Public Library will celebrate the Week of the Young Child with various activities and educational opportunities this Saturday.

As part of the event, Youth Services Librarian Katie Dreyer invites children, teachers, families, and the community to participate in activities such as making a look and find bottle, ArtKits2Go with Miss Mary, music with Central College students, and an Eagle Program with Marion County Conservation Naturalist Karen Johlas-Szalkowski. Additionally, the event will have information tables for Little Wonders Chiropractor, the Pella Art Center, Marion County Conservation, Little Dutch Academy, and Families First of Pella.

The Week of the Young Child event will take place in the Pella Public Library’s meeting room at 10 am.

The Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children invites the community to participate in the celebration through a variety of themed, child-focused activities:

  • Music Monday (April 7): Activities highlighting how music promotes language development and early literacy skills
  • Tasty Tuesday (April 8): Focus on healthy nutrition and cooking activities that connect math, literacy, and science
  • Work Together Wednesday (April 9): Building projects that develop problem-solving, math, and social skills
  • Artsy Thursday (April 10): Creative art experiences that foster critical thinking and fine motor development
  • Family Friday (April 11): Celebration of families as children’s first and most important teachers
