Central College’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform the world premiere of a new musical work honoring Ahmir Jolliff and 1989 Central graduate Dan Marburger at 7 pm on Monday in the Perry Performing Arts Center.
The work entitled “A Mere Moment – Bolero in Remembrance” by Michele Fernandez, will be performed under the direction of Central College lecturer of music and director of bands Brad Lampe. The performance will feature the Perry High School Band, under the direction of Lisa Christensen and Blaine Schmidt, in collaboration with Lampe. Central senior lecturer of music and director of the Flying Pans Steel Drum Ensemble Stan Dahl is assisting with the performance. Each ensemble will also perform other pieces during the concert.
According to the Perry Performing Arts Center website, the project was initiated to honor the resilience of the Perry community following the tragic events of January 4th, 2024, when student Ahmir Jolliff and Principal Marburger lost their lives. The composition serves as a tribute to their memories, and as a gesture of support and healing from the Iowa instrumental music community.
The event is free and open to the public at the Perry Performing Arts Center at 1200 18th St. in Perry.
