A series of major improvements to Highway 14 between Knoxville and Monroe are slated to begin with two key projects on Monday.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, the Mile Long Bridge will be closed for an overlay and Brush Creek Bridge just south of County Highway G-28 will be reconstructed — which makes up phase one of four. The work starts on April 7th and continues until October 23rd.
Traffic will be detoured to use Iowa 163 from Monroe to County T-17 from Pella to Iowa 92 to Knoxville and vice versa, according to the Marion County Road Department. The Red Rock Dam will remain open most days, with the exception of multiple short-term closures anticipated.
Additional projects are scheduled on Highway 14 north of Knoxville over the next three years, including bridge overlays that will keep the road open but down to a single-lane in 2026, and reconstruction of non-bridge stretches of the road in 2027 and 2028, which will include more detours.
