team-climb

The Newton Fire Department raised the most money for the American Lung Association in the Fight For Air Climb that was held Sunday, March 30th in downtown Des Moines. Firefighters in full gear along with friends, family, and colleagues climbed stairs in three downtown Des Moines buildings. The money raised goes to research, education, and advocacy for lung health and promoting clean air.

Participants had the opportunity to climb 79 floors and 1,656 steps by going up the 32 floors of the Ruan Building, the 15 floors of the EMC Insurance Companies Building, and making two trips to the top of the 16 floor Hub Tower. The Newton Fire Department was the top Fire Department team for fundraising, bringing in $3,221, which was well above their $2,000 team goal.
