
The Newton boys soccer team hosts Grinnell this morning while the three members of the boys track and field team travel to an invitational at Iowa City West.
The Cardinal boys soccer team is still looking for their first win after five games. They have two ties and three losses. They fell to Pella Christian 2-1 in their last game Tuesday at H.A. Lynn Stadium. On the year, Newton has four goals out of 32 shots on goal. Meanwhile, the team has given up 15 goals while goalkeeper Javin Dolan has made 60 saves. Grinnell has scored six goals in three games and has two wins and one tie. The Tigers and Cardinals will have the first kick at 9 a.m..
Newton Track and Field head coach Chad Garvis is taking three members of his team to a large meet called the Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival at Iowa City West High School. The three athletes going are focused on qualifying for the Drake Relays, including Caden Klein, Isaiah Hansen, and Nick Milburn. Klein, who won five individual events this week at track meets at South Tama and Oskaloosa, will compete in a couple of running events. Hansen is entered in the high jump, while Milburn will compete in the shot put. The Iowa City meet starts at 10:30 a.m.
