The Newton boys soccer team handed Boone their first loss of the season Friday, beating the Toreadors in Newton 2-1. Boone scored first, with their only goal coming 18 minutes into the game. The Cardinals tied the score three minutes before halftime on a goal by Aiden Robson. It was Robson’s second of the season. Newton took the lead with the winning goal on a penalty kick. Senior Landon Bozarth, who has started every varsity Cardinal soccer game since entering high school, put the ball in the net with 10:18 left in the game. It was Bozarth’s first goal this year, to go along with his four assists in eight games.

Newton is now 2-4-2, and Cardinal head soccer Zach Jensen believes the team’s best games are still ahead.

“We still think we can do something, it’s just finding the right pieces. Soccer is like a game of chess. You move one piece, how does the other piece react?  Right now on the field, we are finding out positionally  wise how we can succeed with the pieces we have.”

The Newton boys soccer team will play their next game at home against Ballard on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
