Members of the Pella High School Robotics team, the Bionic Dutch, recently claimed first place at the Iowa Technology Student Association (TSA) Robotics State Championship. Ninth grade students Peyton Phillips, Kayle Huffaker and Zoe Shaffer won the high school division, competing against teams from across Iowa.

This year’s national TSA challenge required robots to collect and place a variety of payloads—ranging from cones and rings to bean bags and slinky-style toys—within a five-minute time limit on a 10’ x 10’ field.

The Bionic Dutch team spent weeks studying the challenge before spending three months designing, 3D printing, building, and testing their robot.

This win marks the fourth consecutive TSA state robotics title for the Pella High Robotics team.
