The Central College men’s golf team and baseball team were both in action on Saturday.

The Dutch baseball team split with the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves in an American Rivers Conference doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS. Central dropped game one of the doubleheader 10-7. Max Steinlage got the start on the mound going five innings giving up five hits and two earned runs. The Dutch just trailed 4-3 heading into the sixth innings, but gave up five runs in the sixth frame as the Prairie Wolves put the game out of reach. Steinlage had a good day at the plate in game one going 3-5. . 

In game two, the Dutch picked up a 7-6 win. Starting pitcher Mark Kenney picked up the win after throwing 7 ⅔ innings giving up 11 hits and four earned runs. Going into the fifth inning the game was knotted 4-4 but the Dutch were able to break the game open with a three run home run from Chance Dreyer. The Prairie Wolves scored one in the sixth and two in the eighth after Central scored one more in the sixth, but the Dutch were able to pull out the win after Turner Williams recorded some key outs to pick up the save.

The Central baseball team moves to 15-17 on the season and 6-12 in conference play. The Dutch will be back in action on Friday at home for the start of a three game series against Simpson. 

Rebounding from Friday’s slow start, Central College’s Blake Wynn posted an eagle and four birdies in closing with an even-par 71 at the 15-team Bobby Krig Invitational men’s golf tourney on Saturday.

Central slipped one spot and finished eighth in the 54-hole tournament, shooting 308 at the par-71 New Prague Golf Course after carding a 306-305 Friday. Central closed at 306-305-308–919, and Wynn climbed into a tie for 53rd at 82-83-71–236. Kayden Pendergrass shot 73-75-85–233 and Crew Klingner shot 78-76-78–233 to share top honors for Central overall, tying for 41st. Maison Brandt shot 77-75-82–234 to share 43rd with Carter Yurgae, who had 78-79-77–234.

The tournament was Central’s final outing prior to the 54-hole American Rivers Conference Championships April 27th-29th at the par-72 Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines. Tee times start at 1 pm on April 27th and 9 am on the 28th and 29th. The tourney champion receives the conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championships May 13th-16th in Penfield, New York.
