Rico Abreu is starting to like the Knoxville Raceway. So much so, that he is starting to pile up wins at the half mile. Saturday was no different, after a cloudy drizzle soaked Friday night that cancelled racing, Saturday was clear and chilly but Abreu proved to be the fastest car all night after he was overall quicktime against a field of 65 sprint cars. He did not slow down much in the A-Main starting 3rd and getting to the front by mid race. However, he had company as fellow Californian and NASCAR Star Kyle Larson was bearing down in the closing laps but Abreu held off Larson by just over .2 of a second. Abreu told KNIA/KRLS Sports he had to practice patience but still drive fast.
Abreu: “The exits on the bottom were getting tricky, and I wanted to set a fast pace. When you get there you have to use foot work and when you race against the best you can’t make any mistakes to beat them.”
Larson settled for 2nd while Logan Schuchart was the top Outlaw driver in 3rd. The Knoxville Raceway will hold the regular season opening races on Saturday.
