The Newton Public Library is announcing the activities associated with this year’s Summer Reading Program. Youth Services Librarian Phyllis Peter says the free program runs through June and July, and provides something for kids to do during the summer.

“Last year, we actually had a record breaking summer. It was over one thousand kids. So we are expecting big numbers again this year.”

Peter says most of the summer reading activities are geared towards children 12 and under. A list of the activities will be available on the Newton Public Library’s website, and Peter says it’s also distributed by the Newton School District. A special two hour Summer Reading kick off will be held at the Newton Public Library from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 2nd, where kids can be signed up for the program and get free ice cream and meet book characters. Newton Public Library Youth Services Librarian Phyllis Peter talks more about the Summer Reading Program on today’s Let’s Talk Newton.
