
The Newton girls soccer team has won back to back games for the first time this year, as they defeated Des Moines North 3-0 on Monday night. In front of their home crowd at H.A. Lynn Stadium, the Cardinals improved their record to 5-4-1. Newton scored two goals in the first half, as Aliviah Ross put her seventh goal of the season into the net in the 15th minute. In the 35th minute,, the Cardinals added onto their lead courtesy of a Polar Bears own goal, to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. Newton tallied their final score of the game just 14 seconds into the second half, with Sophia Coady finding the back of the net for her team-leading ninth goal of the year. The Cardinals girls soccer team will travel to Williamsburg for their next game on Thursday.
The Newton girls golf team placed ninth out of 17 teams at the Lamson Invite hosted by West Des Moines Valley Monday afternoon at Willow Creek Golf Course in West Des Moines. The Cardinals shot 382, while Marshalltown won the invite with a 320. Johana Cerne for Newton finished 13th with a 90, while Evie Main had a 96 to take 26th place. Addison Hook had a 97 to finish 29th, while Addie Ratcliff rounded out the Cardinals scoring with a 99 to take 31st. Eva Pak and Kaliegh Berndt wrapped up Newton’s lineup on the day, with Pak finishing 35th with a 103 and Berndt taking 42nd with a 111. The next outing for the Newton girls golf team is the second Little Hawkeye Conference meet at Westwood Golf Course Tuesday.
