Norwalk picked up wins in girls soccer and girls tennis among five spring sports teams competing on Tuesday.

Girls Soccer wins 3-0

The Class 2A fifth-ranked Warrior girls soccer team won 3-0 at 2A No. 8 Pella, notching their sixth defensive shutout of the season behind Katie Liedtke’s five saves. Maya Butler scored two goals for Norwalk and Olivia Welch had one goal. Avery Drymon and Addy Wood had assists. The Warriors improved to 4-1-3 overall and 3-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They host Ames on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Girls Tennis wins 8-3

The Norwalk girls tennis team won 8-3 at Dallas Center-Grimes, improving to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Little Hawkeye. Ivanna Sherstiuk, Leah Black, Logan Geisler and Kierdyn Stockwell all won their singles matches handily in straight sets. Sherstiuk and Geisler won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and Stockwell and Black also won in straight sets. The doubles teams of Naomi Lors and Jacey Crane, as well as Delaynee Steele and Lily Laine (in their varsity debut) both won third-set tiebreakers. The Warriors host Urbandale on Monday.

Boys Soccer ties Pella

The Class 3A fifth-ranked Norwalk boys soccer team played Pella to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday night. Both goals were scored in the second half. Henry Groos found the back of the net for Norwalk, assisted by Teegan Kralik. Tavin Ferner took three of the team’s seven shots on goal. The Warriors are now 4-1-2 overall and 2-0-2 in conference play. They will host Ankeny Centennial on Thursday at 7:45.

Boys Tennis falls 6-5

The Norwalk boys tennis team suffered their first conference loss of the year, 6-5, vs. DC-G. The Warriors went 4-2 in singles play as Corbin Oswald, Braylon Stockwell, Drew Lents and Eli Mills all won in straight sets. Lents and Oswald also won their doubles match 6-0, 6-1, but the Warriors lost three total matches in the third-set tiebreaker. They are now 4-4 overall and 3-1 in LHC duals.

Boys Track 3rd at Centennial

The Norwalk boys track and field team scored 84 points and tied DC-G for third place at the Ankeny Centennial Jaguar Invite. The Warriors won three events on the night. Cameron Thomas placed first in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 51.66, Logan Atherton won the high jump, and the 4×200 relay quartet of Gavin Dehmer, Kadan Borcherding-Johnson, Eli Robbins and Jamison Giesemann took gold as well. The Warriors’ second-place finishes included Kaiden Kunze in the 100, Daniel Roche in the 200 (PR of 23.15) and Brady Schmitz in the long jump. Norwalk has qualified a dozen events for the Drake Relays on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
