The Norwalk boys track and field team will be well represented at the 2025 Drake Relays. The Warriors have qualified 12 events for America’s Athletic Classic, with high school competition set for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Drake Stadium.
Norwalk senior Tony Anania is the defending Drake Relays’ champion in the mile. For the second straight year, Anania will compete in the 3,200-meter run on Thursday, the 1,600 on Friday and the 800 on Saturday. Junior Kaiden Kunze has qualified for Friday’s 100-meter dash and long jump. He is the state leader in the long jump with a best of 23 feet, 10.75 inches. Kunze was eligible to qualify in the high jump as well, but was not entered in the event so that he can run on two relay teams at Drake. Sophomore Logan Atherton will compete in Thursday’s high jump while senior Daniel Roche is a qualifier for Friday’s 400-meter dash.
The Norwalk boys have also qualified five relays for Drake. They will compete in the distance medley, 4×200 and 4×400 relays on Friday, as well as the 4×100 and 4×800 on Saturday. The Norwalk girls have also qualified their 4×100 relay for Drake.
Three other Norwalk spring sports teams are in action today. The girls golfers will compete in the Oskaloosa Invite at 1:00 p.m. The girls soccer team hosts Ames at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Warrior boys vs. Ankeny Centennial at 7:45.
