The former Montgomery Ward Building just off the northeast corner of Newton’s square, is being renovated into a public market and business incubator. The two-story building, which was built in 1929, features a mezzanine and 14,000 square feet. The property is owned by Jerry Schwaller of Newton, and he says that his plan is to open the Grey Moon Public Market in that space in November.
“When we get done with it, it’s going to be a public market that will have food vendors, retail vendors, a bar and coffee shop, and a learning/event area.”
Schwaller says he took on this $4 million project to save the historic building, which will have its front facade and some interior features refurbished to the way it was when it was built 96 years ago. Hear more about the Grey Moon Public Market on today’s Let’s Talk Newton.
