
The Norwalk girls golfers broke their own school record on Thursday, the girls soccer team defeated Ames and the boys soccer team lost to Ankeny Centennial.
Girls Golf places 1st
The Warrior girls golfers won the Oskaloosa Invite at Edmundson Golf Course, defeating 10 other teams with an 18-hole school record of 334. Solon placed second with a 342. Mariola Torro Abad topped the Norwalk scorecard, earning second-place medalist honors with a round of 80. Evelyn Kinney placed fifth with an 83, Addie Smith took eighth with an 84, Lydia Krueger shot an 87 and Ava Garvey added an 89.
The Warriors broke their 18-hole scoring record for the second straight outing, improving by 14 strokes from Monday’s meet at Willow Creek. Next up is Monday’s second Little Hawkeye Conference Invite at Newton.
Girls Soccer wins 3-1
The Class 2A fifth-ranked Norwalk girls soccer team improved to 5-1-3 overall with a 3-1 home win over 3A No. 15 Ames. The Warriors built a 3-0 halftime lead, getting two goals from Olivia Welch and another by Addy Wood. Assists were credited to Wood and Claire Sandhoff. Katie Liedtke made four saves in goal. Norwalk will now have a week off before returning to action for the DC-G Classic on Friday, May 2.
Boys Soccer falls 1-0
The Class 3A fifth-ranked Norwalk boys soccer team lost a back-and-forth game to Class 4A No. 8 Ankeny Centennial, falling 1-0. Playing much of the game down two starters, the Warriors had one goal nullified by an offsides call. Tyden Eng attempted two of the team’s four shots on goal and Jacoby Robbins had two saves. Norwalk, now 4-2-2 overall, will host another 4A foe on Saturday, facing Ankeny at 1:00 p.m.
