Starting at 7 a.m. Monday, Jasper County’s Secondary Roads Department says just over three miles of Jasper County Highway F-48 West from Colfax to Interstate 80 will be closed to traffic. The closure is expected to last until November, when the resurfacing of this section of the highway is expected to be completed. This is the second phase of resurfacing Highway F-48 West from Newton to the Polk County line. Phase two is from the South Skunk River bridge just south of Interstate 80 at exit 159, to Iowa Highway 117 in Colfax. InRoads LLC of Des Moines was awarded the resurfacing contract in November with a low $2.55 million bid.

The first phase of the resurfacing from Newton to the South Skunk River bridge was completed last August. The Jasper County Board of Supervisors approved a federal aid agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation last month, for most of the funding for phase three, which is from Colfax to the Polk County line. Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch says the $2.1 million in federal funding for that 5.3 miles of resurfacing is through the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program.
