An Oskaloosa man has been arrested after he was accused of hitting New Sharon teenager riding a motorcycle on Oskaloosa Street in Pella late Friday night.
The Iowa State Patrol reports 18-year-old Jaxy Olson was traveling along Oskaloosa Street in Pella when she was struck from behind by a 2017 Honda Accord just before 10 p.m. Olson was flown by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with injuries after she was thrown from her motorcycle. Olson is a December 2024 graduate of Pella High School.
According to the report, 35-year-old Clinton Chipman of Oskaloosa was the driver of the Accord. Chipman was listed as an inmate at Marion County Jail and charged with operating while intoxicated – 3rd offense, a class D felony. Court records indicate Chipman had guilty pleas to the same charge in 2017 and 2019.
The criminal complaint written by an Iowa State Patrol trooper alleges that Chipman had a breath alcohol content of .185% reported from a preliminary field test given shortly after the collision, and that a search warrant had been issued for his blood.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Pella Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Pella Fire, Pella Ambulance, and MercyAir.
