Maasdam/Cox Secure State Tournament Bids
Knoxville Girls Tennis doubles team of Janie Maasdam and Marlea Cox won the class 1A regional on Monday beating a duo from Davis County in the championship match 6-1, 6-2. Maasdam and Cox were the #1 seed and defeated a team from Fort Madison in the first round 6-1 and 6-1 then beat a team from Burlington-Notre Dame in the quarterfinals before winning their semi final match over another team from Davis County 6-1, 6-0. Knoxville’s other doubles team of Iselynn Prevo and Jordyn Counts fell in the quarterfinals. In singles Bridgette Liston placed 4th while Addy Dunkin lost in the quarterfinals. Maasdam and Cox will play at the State Tournament inWaterloo.
Boys Golf 2nd at Conference Meet
Knoxville’s reign as South Central Conference Boys Golf Champions came to an end on Monday as Albia won the conference title by 14 shots over Knoxville at Cedar Creek Golf Course in Ottumwa. The Panthers shot 316 led by Grant Gerdes, who was second with a 74. Brady Roozeboom was the other Panther in the top ten in 5th with a 76. Track and Field Tunes Up For State Qualifier
The Knoxville Track and Field Squads headed across the river to Pella for a final tune up for the State Qualifying meet on Thursday. The boys came away with five gold medals including Koby Higginbotham twice in open events in the 110 high hurdles and 400 hurdles plus he was on the winning sprint medley relay team along with Emmitt Hyatt, Yusef Gulley, and Cael Irving that set a new school record with time of 1:34.86. Also winning gold medals was Kaiden Smith in the high jump and Yusef Gulley in the long jump. The girls were led by Siena Scott, who placed 3rd in the 100 hurdles in a time of :16.80. No team scores were kept.
Ripperger’s Goal Lift Girls To First Win, Boys Cruise Past Clarke
It was a sweep for the Knoxville Soccer Squads on Monday at Randy Wilson Track and the girls got their first win of the season when Mariah Ripperger found the back of the net with just over 5:00 to play to give Knoxville a 2-1 victory over Clarke. The Panthers’ other score was an own goal in the 1st half. The boys also celebrated senior night with a 5-2 win over the Indians. Jensen Finnegan twice, plus Kaison Wilder, Joseph Finnegan and Cael Cook all tallied goals for the Panthers. The girls are now 1-12 while the boys are 10-1-3. The girls will travel to Creston on Thursday while the boys host Pella on Friday.
