Two crooked number innings were the difference for Centerville in the Knoxville Softball Squad’s loss to the Redettes on Wednesday 5-3 as heard on 95.3 KNIA. Centerville struck for three runs in the 3rd inning, but the Panthers settled in defensively and held Centerville scoreless until the 6th while scoring a run in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings highlighted by the first home run of the season when Ralei Danner connected to left field. That score made it 3-2 then Marlea Cox singled in the 6th to tie the game, but the Redettes would score two in the bottom of the 6th to get the final difference. Interim Head Coach Whitney McWilliams told KNIA/KRLS Sports there were several positives that came out.
McWilliams: “We just talked about doing all the little things right. Jordyn pitched a great game, we hit the ball well, I’m proud of the girls, they played a great game.”
Addy Dunkin went 2/4 while Marlea Cox drove in two runs. Knoxville drops to 0-4 and 0-3 in the South Central Conference.
Meanwhile on Panther Drive, the Knoxville Baseball Squad got a sterling performance from Lincoln Norris to defeat Centerville 2-0. The game was scheduled for Centerville but at the last minute was moved to Knoxville due to Centerville’s field deemed unplayable. The two runs Knoxville scored came in the 2nd inning when Grant DeMoss doubled and Jessen Ferguson singled to bring home DeMoss. DeMoss went 2/2 with an R-B-I to lead the offense. Norris went the distance scattering five hits, walking four and striking out seven. Knoxville is now 3-5 on the season and 2-2 in the South Central Conference. Softball travels to Bondurant-Farrar tonight while baseball hosts Winterset on Panther Drive also tonight.
