Early season practices can be just as much about a team’s internal leadership as the instruction they receive from the coaching staff, and the Pella High girls soccer team appears to have just the right personnel to lead the team to success in 2012. Lady Dutch head coach Sam Mate-Kodjo says this year’s captains combine experience with athleticism, and will help anchor what he sees as a really strong squad this spring.
“We’ve got great senior captains who are really going to hold it together for us. We’ve got [Taylor] Rennich, who is probably going to anchor the midfield; we’ve got Addie Van Vliet, who’s going to be really powerful playing in the front or in the middle… and we’ve got [Kim] Korver at the back,” said Mate-Kodjo. “She [Korver] used to play on the side, but we’re going to move her to the middle… I think our seniors are going to hold us together.”
The Pella High girls soccer team starts the 2012 schedule with a challenging non-conference contest at home, when they host Dowling Catholic on April 3rd.
