The Central College football team welcomes two new coaches to the program as it prepares for the 2012 season. The openings were created when running backs coach Jerry Southmayd retired, and co-defensive coordinator Zach Pfantz left to take the head coaching job at Ottumwa High School.
Longtime Coach Don DeWaard will resume his role as the sole defensive coordinator, and two new faces have been added. One actually isn’t so new, and will be very familiar to fans of the Dutch. Nick Mulder, a 2008 Central College graduate and Pella native has been added to head coach Jeff McMartin’s staff.
Mulder will also have recruiting responsibilities, and is working side-by-side with Carl Coleman, who is the other new coach. Coleman comes from Mary Hardin Baylor, and will serve as an assistant coach and the team’s recruiting coordinator.
