Warm-ups and practices are well underway for the PCM girls’ track and field team and their head coach, Bridget Burns, says she’s very fortunate with having so many athletes on the team that are just coming off of basketball season. Burns explained that while they are in shape, being in “track shape” is a little bit different. Learning the routines of handoffs and getting off the starting blocks quickly and correctly have also been worked on over past few weeks for the Mustangs’ girls. More importantly, says Burns, is building a “base” for her girls and getting them into shape. The PCM girls had a very strong showing in their first meet of the season last week, one that Coach Burns was very happy with, and said she will use as a starting point for her athletes to improve on over the rest of the spring. The next action her team will see is on March 26 in a home meet against Centerville, Pella Christian, Chariton, Albia and Moravia at 5:00 p.m.
