The City of Knoxville is taking steps to continue turning over dilapidated properties to responsible properties owners. City Manager Harold Stewart explains they recently put up “for sale” signs at properties that they have acquired. The large white signs explain the effort the City has taken to remove nuisance properties. Each lot has either had a home torn down on it or will in the near future.
Stewart says that the City is in the process of creating a list of those lots to put on their website. There, potential buyers can see the lots and what the City has invested into the property already. There are also nuisance properties that the City has acquired that are too small to be considered buildable now. Stewart says the City Council has considered, among other options, putting community parks or gardens there. The Council will discuss the matter further at a future meeting.
