A customer at a bank in Pella recently fell victim to a scam.

A postcard was mailed and says to call a number to claim a prize. When the recipient called, they were asked for their debit card number, and that person gave it out over the phone. Marketing Officer Teresa Ulferts with Marion County Bank says they offer some protections against scams such as card cancelling and credit monitoring, but Ulferts says the best way to prevent the fraud is to keep personal information safe. She says to always verify the other party when sharing personal information, and to never give it out over the phone. We have more scam safety tips with Ulferts on Let’s Talk Pella.
