On the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on 9-11-2001, Knoxville Fire Chief Jim Mitchell believes that the sacrifices made by emergency personnel that day should never be forgotten.
“We can’t forget that there’s 343 people that was willing to give their lives and did give their lives to save another human, someone they’ve never met before,” Mitchell told KNIA/KRLS News. “They gave it all. Even though they knew the risk was pretty high; they knew the odds were against them, they still kept filing in one at a time. And I don’t think we can forget that. I think we have to appreciate the hazards that are associated with the fire service.”
Governor Terry Branstad has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff today in honor of those who perished in the 9-11 terrorist attacks.
