The City of Pella is ready for winter weather this season.
City of Pella Public Works Director Denny Buyert tells KNIA/KRLS news that most of the equipment the city uses is dual purpose, and is currently in use for construction projects. He says they usually don’t hang plows or install salt and sand boxes until the first storm of the season is in the forecast. He says in a typical year they use 800 tons of sand and 400 tons of salt in a 2 to 1 mixture, and that the city is included in a large contract with the Des Moines metro to help keep those costs low.
