Driving can be more hazardous during the winter.

Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada offers some tips to avoid accidents in winter weather conditions, the first tip being… slow down.

Losada says drivers need to be cautious of “black ice,” water that refreezes in the early evening hours that’s difficult to see.

Losada also recommends to keep a good distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you to avoid sliding into them if you have to brake quickly and take your time around large snow mounds that not only can impede your vision but can also be play areas for young children.
