Nine made field goals on 51 attempts cost the Central women’s basketball team in a 68 – 41 loss to Simpson on Saturday. Both teams started out hot from the field, but it would be the Dutch that could not thaw out after going ice cold to finish the first half. The Dutch shot under 18% from the field, and 4-for-24 from the perimeter in the loss. Central did out-rebound the Storm, 49 – 38, and Jackie Kriegel had a game-high 11 of those boards to go along with six points. Central’s men shut down their rivals and held them to 28% shooting in a 60 – 46 victory. The Dutch also attacked the glass hard, grabbing 52 boards to Simpson’s 37. Colby Taylor had a career-high, and second most in school history, 21, which he backed up with 12 points for a double-double, and Nile Eckermann scored 25, as Central’s men improve to 11 – 10 overall and 4 – 6 in the league; the women fall to 9 – 12 and 0 – 10, respectively. Central is off until Wednesday when they hit the road to Cedar Rapids for a doubleheader with Coe.
