Gas leak at Roche & Washington in Knoxville Wednesday morning

Road construction projects caused two more gas main leaks in Knoxville Wednesday morning.

The first was at Roche and Washington Streets at around 9am. Knoxville Assistant City Fire Chief Greg Higginbotham said a crane doing street work hit a gas line that was shallower than anticipated. The construction crew quickly clamped the line and waited for Alliant Energy to arrive and fix line. No one was evacuated from the area. It’s not known how many homes were affected by the gas line break.
The second was at Third and Main Streets around 11:30am near This, That, and the Other on the Knoxville Square. Emergency crews responded once again and Alliant Energy came out to the location to take care of the problem.
No injuries were reported at either scene. Knoxville Fire and Rescue and Alliant Energy responded to both calls.
That makes three construction-related gas leaks in Knoxville over the past three days.
