The Central College men’s basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat Dubuque 81-66 in last night’s Iowa Conference tournament semifinal round, and reached a pair of milestones in the process. The win earned the Dutch their first-ever win in the league tournament in 11 tries and improved their overall record to 22-4, which is now the most wins ever posted by a Central men’s basketball team.
The Dutch had four players score in double figures, led by 22 points from Mark Holan. Forward Loren Liming added 20 points and eight rebounds in the victory.
With the win, the league champion Dutch will now host No. 2 seed Buena Vista in Saturday’s Iowa Conference tournament championship. The Beavers downed Wartburg 78-72 last night in Storm Lake. The winner of Saturday’s game will earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.
