Nobody said it was going to be easy. There are no shortcuts to the top. It’s a doubleheader that has been years in the making, and on Monday night, Pella High baseball has the opportunity to win their first ever Little Hawkeye Conference championship, and first league title since 1994, when they went 15 – 6 in the South Central Conference under the direction of Randy Naaktgeboren. Oskaloosa is their opponent, and all the 20 – 4 Little Dutch have to do is split the twin-bill with the Indians. It may seem easy to just win one, but Oskaloosa, with a 16 – 6 mark, will not go down swinging. They feature a fairly deep and consistent pitching staff that has carried them to this point, and are a much different team since their 10 – 0 loss to Pella a few weeks ago. Coach Jesse Jablonski hopes their improved defense continues, and wants his team to take better at bats. Pella is 13 – 3 in the L-H-C, while the Indians are 9 – 5, with two last conference games against Grinnell coming up on Thursday. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
