The PCM and Pella Christian baseball teams finished their 2015 regular seasons against one another in a 3-2 pitcher’s duel, with the Mustangs earning the slim edge. PCM hurler Tyler Townsend earned the complete game victory, and Eagles pitcher Scott Haveman was the hard-luck loser, giving up three runs–two earned, in six innings of work. Mustangs skipper Shawn Hudnut told KNIA/KRLS Sports after the game that his team earned some much needed steam heading into the postseason with two much-needed wins.

“We had a rough second, third, fourth week of the season where things weren’t going our way and we were making a lot of mistakes in all aspects of the game,” Hudnut says. “We’ve been really stressing to the kids to refocus and regroup for July 11th, because that’s the second season, everything starts 0-0.”

Eagles Head Coach Nate Johnson says his team played much better than the scoreboard indicated, with a few tough breaks on hard-hit baseballs.

“That’s just the game of baseball,” Johnson says. “Our guys hit it 300 feet, but don’t get many runs, and they hit a couple of ‘duck snorts’ and get a few runs that way, but that’s just the way it is.”

Trey Lindsey had an RBI single in the 2nd inning for the game’s first run, and Pella Chrisitan Shortstop Clay Stravers walked twice and scored in the 6th. PCM now sits at 8-16, and play Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont for the first round of Class 2A district action on Saturday. The Eagles finish the regular season at 13-18 and play Central Decatur in the same location, a postseason broadcast than can be heard on 92.1 KRLS at 4:30 p.m.
