Gladys Black was honored in Pleasantville at Cora Shadle City Park Saturday along with a variety of activities, exhibits, and presentations.

Cecelia Mesecher says Gladys offered many things to the community until her death in 1998. She says Gladys worked with sixth graders during Outdoor Days, wrote newspaper columns and books about birds, and was a fellow of the Iowa Academy of Science.

Mesecher feels it’s time the Bird Lady of Iowa is given the recognition she deserves. She wants future generations to know about who Gladys was and what she gave to the world.

The KNIA/KRLS Big Red Radio will be providing music at the event.
