The Pella Christian boys basketball team has flexed their muscle thus far in the 2016 district tournament, but they’ll take on an old rival to settle the score in the championship round tonight.
The 14-9 Eagles will take on 13-8 Albia in Oskaloosa for the right to play in the Class 2A Substate final in Fairfield on Saturday.
This will mark the third straight year these two schools have spoiled each other’s seasons. Albia beat the 2014 PC team 67-60, and last year’s eventual 3rd place-in-the-state Pella Christian squad knocked off their main rival to the south 85-69.
The Eagles are flying high after blowing out Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Pleasantville in the first two rounds of postseason play and winning six straight overall. Albia lost three of their last four to end the regular season, but beat Van Buren to advance after earning a first round bye.
Pella Christian Coach Larry Hessing says they’ll have to try and handle and young, but potent group of Blue Demons.
