Representative Greg Heartsill is proud of legislation to crackdown on human trafficking in the Hawkeye State.

Heartsill shares that when people think of human trafficking they generally think of larger cities and coastal areas dealing with human trafficking as it relates to prostitution, but Iowa and other midwestern states have issues with illegal workers being trafficked. Heartsill equates the conditions that victims of trafficking face to slavery. Legislation that Heartsill worked on to combat this expands the statute of limitations on trafficker’s offenses and is on its way to the governor’s desk. Another bill seeks to create an office in the Department of Public Safety to deal with human trafficking cases and has passed through the house.
