The Knoxville City Council is moving forward with plans to lease an unused section of Auld Park for use as a dog park.

Members of Paws for Pals and the Knoxville Lion’s Club spoke to the city council Monday night about preparations they have made. The City will lease the property to the Lion’s Club for a year, and over the course of that year Paws for Pals will form a non-profit organization to administer the dog park and take over the lease the following year. The city requested that the group insure the park for liability and issue licenses to dog’s using the park. Paws for Pals is speaking with insurers and will partner with local veterinarians to ensure that dogs are properly vaccinated and licensed. The lease will be signed at the next regularly scheduled council meeting.
