Pella Middle School seventh-graders gave some hard-earned cash to local, state, and national causes at a special assembly Friday.
Callista Webb and Julia Smart say the class of 2021 was challenged in their social studies class to take a loan and grant from Community First Credit Union to raise funds with their concession stand through the school year.
“We decided to give some of our concession stand money to donate to organizations we thought needed it or that we had personal connections to,” Webb says.
“We really had to understand that we are so fortunate to live in this town that’s really lucky and this country that’s wealthy,” Smart tells KNIA/KRLS. “So we really wanted to make a difference to help.”
The students presented checks to The Raining Season, Wounded Warriors, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Make a Wish, Youth Emergency Services, Marijka Strong at Trinity Reformed, Keegan’s Cause, their Middle School NYC/DC trip, and a new sound system at Pella Middle School.
A total of $3482.30 was given to those organizations.
