Martin Duffy of Knoxville is running in the Democratic primary against Pleasantville resident Lois DeWaard.

Both are looking for a chance to unseat Republican incumbent Greg Heartsill for the District 28 seat in the Iowa House of Representatives. Duffy is a native of Tracy and says that his primary focus is on making education a priority and not a liability. Duffy also says that Knoxville should have a serious discussion about ways to utilize the abandoned VA hospital grounds, claiming that if he is elected he will seek creative ways to solve the problem. He adds that he has been both a Republican and a Democrat and says he has a unique perspective on the issues.
