An early 2 – 0 deficit was scaled and eclipsed by the Pella High baseball team last night in their 4 – 2 win over Norwalk, in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS. A balk and RBI hit by the Warriors in the third gave them an early cushion. Pella got one back on a sacrifice fly from AJ Kingery in the fourth, and then tied it up with Ben Tiskevics first career home run. A lead-off walk to Grant Judkins, a balk, and an RBI double from Payton Shull gave the Little Dutch the late advantage, and Judkins closed the game out by striking out Norwalk looking in order to earn the save in the seventh. Coach Jesse Jablonski credited the team’s errorless defense after the game. Pella’s record stands at 10 – 2 overall, and they have a 5 – 0 slate in conference play. They’ll next play a home doubleheader this afternoon versus Algona.
It took 11 innings to decide a winner on the softball field; a game that was won eventually by Norwalk, 5 – 4. Pella raced out to a 2 – 0 lead with a two-run double from Alexa Dingeman. Both teams scored two runs in the tenth, but the Warriors sent a moon-shot over the fence in the 11th for a 5 – 4 lead that they were able to hang onto. The Lady Dutch fall to 8 – 7, and they’re off until Monday for a showdown at Newton.
