The “dog days” of summer are fast approaching.
Dr. Tim Yoder with Tri-County Veterinary Clinic encourages all pet owners to monitor a pet’s health during hot, humid days, especially when it has to be left outdoors.
Dr. Yoder says exposure to temperatures in the 90s with high humidity is enough to cause symptoms of heat stress and even heat stroke in pets. He says to avoid leaving animals in parked cars for any reason, even with the windows cracked.
Yoder also encourages owners to consider grooming their thick haired animals to protect them from overheating.
