The Casey’s General Store conflict will be resolved tonight by the Pella City Council.

A third reading of a planned unit development zoning ordinance change is on the agenda. If approved, a corresponding site plan would be as well, which allows Casey’s to build a modified store on the vacant lot at the corner of Main and Union Streets.

As they have for nearly ten months, residents–most of which live in the adjacent neighborhood, are expected to speak against the store at the public forum scheduled at the beginning of each regular council meeting.

In each of the past two votes, the measure approved 4-1, with Bruce Schiebout alone in opposition. Council members in favor previously stated it was the best available option, but not necessarily ideal.

They have denied their votes have been influenced by pending legal action from Casey’s, a move the convenience store chain made this summer after their previous site plans were denied by city boards and the council.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Pella Public Safety Complex on Liberty Street.
