The Simpson Storm Men’s Basketball Team outscored Wartburg 53-38 in the second half to pull away for a 81-68 win over Wartburg Saturday afternoon in a game heard live on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA.
The Storm trailed by two at halftime, but 64% shooting in the second half spurred Simpson to start their conference season off with a win. Sam Amsbaugh scored 21 points in the win, Ryan Skaar put in 19, and DJ Dafney put in 11.
The Storm women mounted a second half comeback themselves, but 9th ranked Wartburg closed the door on the back of star guard Katie Sommer’s 20 points. Allyson Simpson led the Storm with 14 points off the bench, with leading apiece.
The men improve to 5-2, the women fall to 1-5, and both will play this Wednesday at home against Luther.
